Cake #5: Flowers

This was the last cake for course 1, decorating basics.

I had to make the flowers a few days before to let them dry. I had to put them in the fridge to harden.

The flowers on the cake.

We learned how to make roses tonight in class. We also learned to write with the icing.

Cupcakes

Today we decorated cupcakes. I must say that I don't care for them. I do like putting the base layer on the cupcake, but I don't enjoy decorating each and every one of them.

Here is the mum. You can see the cupcake with the base, yellow icing in the background. That's the part I enjoyed the best.

Here is another flower we learned how to make. I don't remember the name of the flower.

Next week: double layer cake!

Cake #4: Circles

Greg's birthday cake! It's chocolate buttercream-ish icing. It's the Pillsbury reduced sugar cake and icing. This icing was more difficult to work with, but overall I think it turned out nice. The circles are made out of fondant. I've seen cakes with the circles and wanted to try it. The chocolate icing makes the cake look more manly too!
Next week we make cupcakes.

Cake #3: Zebra Print

I made this cake for a nurse who is leaving the hospital (an opportunity for more practice!). The zebra print is actually a sugar sheet. This cake is my favorite so far!

Cake #2: Fish

This is what we did in class tonight. More cakes coming at the end of this week!
Stay tuned!

Cake #1

So here's my first cake. I made it for the nurses at the hospital. The idea is to try to make cakes for other people so that Justin and I don't get stuck eating them. I captured the process. The cake looks much better in the pictures than in actual life. I'm probably my toughest critic.

Here's the cake out of the pan:

Cake Decorating 101

I've started a cake decorating class at Hobby Lobby. The first class went over decorating cookies. The pictures are of the cookies I decorated tonight. Decorating an actual cake is next week!
